Could you help us out and answer 10 questions about us re-opening Fuel church? Click here
The guidelines laid out by our governor for churches to reopen would include social distancing of 6ft at all times (that would mean 6ft apart while sitting in the auditorium also), limited number of kids in each class, everyone wearing masks, and a touch less experience (Meaning that you would not touch anything or anybody from the time you get out of your car till you return). So, as you can imagine there would be a huge amount of new trainings for our teams to go through to assure that we respect and honor these guidelines laid out for us.
Listen, if there is anyone who wants to be back to church in a fierce and passionate way, it’s us. We miss our family so much, but we cannot be in a rush to reopen. There are so many unknowns, because this virus is unknown. About 4 weeks ago I felt these words in my spirit concerning when it would be time to reopen, “go slower rather than faster” and can I be honest with you…I didn’t like hearing this. I was frustrated, because there is no substitute for gathering with Gods people in Gods house. Don’t get me wrong I’m so grateful for all God has done through fuel online during this season. The reality is we never stopped having church, the church just left the building. Because it is people who make up the Church and the truth is the Holy Spirit is no less active in your homes because of our inability to gather in a public place of worship. He is still moving in a major way!
There may be social (physical) distancing but there hasn’t been spiritual distancing
God has done some awesome things During these past 8 weeks; our church has grown stronger and larger as we fulfill our vision of seeing Gods lost kids filled with the Grace and Hope found in Jesus Christ. The first part of our mission is that we desire for everyone to KNOW GOD and it’s happening, we have had 162 people text us and say “I said the prayer” making a life change decision for Jesus Christ.
Let’s continue the next part of our mission we desire for everyone to FIND FREEDOM. Our small groups have continued to meet virtually during this time helping people grow spiritually and to continue finding freedom. As well our Celebrate recovery in Westfield has continued to help those in recovery stay strong through virtual group meetings. Then we are seeing people DISCOVER THEIR PURPOSE through our Fresh start classes teaching them biblical foundational truths of who God is and his plan for their lives. We are also starting our virtual NEXT STEPS coming up in a few weeks to help people find their purpose and grow in their gifts.
Lastly, we are MAKING A DIFFERENCE! Can I just say how proud I am of our Fuel Family! Together in this season we’ve given away thousands of dollars to help with COVID-19 related causes, from helping purchase N-95 masks for area hospitals, to providing snack bins for 5 area hospitals for all the doctors, nurses and frontline healthcare workers who are working tirelessly each day. We have also been helping some of our local homeless organizations and their feeding programs in Kokomo, to Check-Ins on Facebook that equal a missions dollar amount going directly to some of the hardest hit areas of this pandemic, to food cards and groceries going out to some of our own Fuel families who have been in need. Thank you, thank you for your faithful financial support during this time, you didn’t allow fear to grip you therefore you continued to lead the way with irrational generosity.
I’ve said this from the start “We can’t control the situation but we can control how we respond” and can I say I’m so proud how you (Fuel church) responding to those in need. We can’t do everything but we will always do something to make a difference in our communities. Do not believe the lies that say “you’re not making a difference right now” Listen the story’s we’ve been reading of people lives being changed are because you kept praying for your church family and its leaders, it’s because you continued to tithe and give during a very difficult season. We’ve heard about marriage being restored…that’s because of you, and also hearing stories of redemption, healing, and hope. People’s lives have been literally saved because someone shared our online experience and God rescued them. This is all because of you… you still have purpose. Every share online, every watch party, every comment, every prayer in the chats is making a difference.
Please understand we miss being in our physical locations, seeing you, hugging you, laughing with you and having you say “Amen” during the message. Hitting your neighbor saying “that was for you” I miss you shouting me down and hearing you say thank you that message encouraged me. Listen it’s been difficult to preach to an empty room, and sing to an empty room. And we want more than anything for us to come back together and experience the presence of God in our locations together. However, at this time we feel it’s best to continue doing what we’ve been doing online. So, for the month of May that’s what we will do and as we continue to see how this unfolds, Tara and I along with our team of elders will continue to meet and talk through what is best for our church in moving forward. We will update you as we work toward the future and pray about our plan to reopen.
I want to thank our team of elders for their insight, wisdom, and leadership during these trying times. They have been such a support of encouragement to me during this time and doing what’s best for the families of Fuel.
Thank you for understanding, although I’m sure not everyone may agree with this decision, understand we are doing what we feel is best for you and your family. Your safety is our #1 priority. We love you all so very much!
Stay Strong, P. Jacob
